History of the Volkswagen Beetle (1998 - 2011)

The Volkswagen New Beetle (1998 - 2011)(Type 9C) was an automobile produced by the German manufacturer Volkswagen from 1998 to 2011. The New Beetle is a reinterpretation of the Volkswagen Beetle, with but does not share structural elements or mechanics. Unlike the Beetle original, this new model Beetle has its engine in the front , front-wheel drive and as it is logical trunk in the rear. At the International motor show in north America in 1994 , Volkswagen unveiled the Concept One , a concept car themed "retro" with a resemblance to the Volkswagen Beetle original . Designed by J Mays and Freeman Thomas. the concept car was based on the platform of the Volkswagen Polo and was presented at the Geneva motor show, in 1994. The strong public reaction to the Concept One convinced the company that it should develop a production version which was launched as the New Beetle in 1998, based on the platform PQ34's largest Golf IV.
